Abstract

151,560. Evershed & Vignoles, and Evershed, S. March 17, 1919. Cores, covering by winding.-A machine for winding wire upon annular cores, especially for winding ring resistances as described in Specification 151,033, comprises a continuous annular winding-drum 3 adapted to be interlinked with a severed annular core r, means for varying the relative rotation of the winding-drum and the core, and a tension device such as a friction brake for ensuring uniformity of tension in the wire. The core r, which may be rectangular or oval in cross-section, is supported by detachable clamps 2 on a turntable 1. The motor 4 drives an intermediate shaft 14, from which the winding-drum is driven by gearing 13, 3<a>, and the turntable through change wheels 8, 9, 10 and worm gearing. A stock drum 6 carrying the wire is mounted to rotate freely on the drum 3, the wire being led off by means of guide pulleys a, band a winding-arm c. The friction brake consists of blocks 16 held by a spring 17 against the face of a disk 7 driven from the stock drum 6 through gearing 20, 15. The gap in the core may be reduced to a saw-cut if the ring is thin enough to give the necessary flexibility; otherwise a gap at least as wide as the winding-drum is required.
