Abstract

1514973 Cooling furnace walls USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 12 Aug 1975 [29 Oct 1974] 33589/75 Heading F4B The bosh section of a blast furnace is cooled by water jets 14 from a spray header 16, said jets 14 impinging on a distributer-aerator 20 consisting of a plurality of porous sheet surfaces serving to both aerate and uniformly distribute the water on to the surface of the furnace shell 12. The distributer-aerator 20 may be fabricated from a strip of wire screen folded into a triangular cross-section to define an upper horizontal surface 22 and converging surfaces 24 and 26 with further surfaces 28 therebetween. The distributer-aerator 20, which may be made up of arcuate sections placed end-to-end around the furnace, is held in place by pins or nails 30 welded on to the face of the shell 12.
