Abstract

Novel, water-insoluble azo dyes of the formula 1 <IMAGE> in which D is the radical of a diazo component from the aromatic or heterocyclic series which is free from water-solubilising groups and can be substituted by halogen atoms, nitro, cyano, alkyl, alkoxy, alkylsulphonyl, sulphonamido, trifluoromethyl, acyl, phenoxy, alkyl carboxylate and/or carboxamido groups and, if D is a phenyl radical, this radical can also be substituted by a phenylazo group, A is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl or alkoxy radical each of which is unsubstituted or substituted by chlorine or bromine atoms, cyano, hydroxyl, alkoxy, acyl or acyloxy groups, B is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an unsubstituted or chlorine- or bromine-, cyano-, hydroxyl-, alkoxy-, acyl- or acyloxy-substituted alkyl, alkoxy, aliphatic or aromatic acylamino or carbamato radical, R is an alkyl radical having 1 to 8 C atoms and n is an integer from 2 to 4, are prepared by diazotising a diazo component of the formula 2 D-NH2 (2> and coupling the resulting diazonium salt onto an azo component of the formula 3 <IMAGE> in acidic to neutral medium. These dyes provide light fast dyeings of high colour strength on synthetic fibre materials.
