Abstract
1513808 Intumescent sheet material MINNESOTA MINING & MFG CO 28 Oct 1975 [4 Nov 1974] 44438/75 Addition to 1476183 Heading D2B [Also in Divisions B1 and B5] A flexible intumescent sheet material comprises from 30 to 75% by wt. expandable mica, 20 to 65% by wt. inorganic fibrous material and 5 to 20% of an organic binder, the sheet having a bulk density when dry of at least 0.5 g/ml. The expandable mica may be an unexpanded vermiculite ore. The inorganic fibrous material may be asbestos, soft glass fibre, zirconia-silica fibre, crystalline alumina whiskers, or aluminosilicate fibre. The organic binder may be a natural rubber, styrene-butadiene, butadieneacrylonitrile, acrylate or methacrylate latex. The sheet may be made by a papermaking method. Flocculants e.g. alum, acid or alkali may be used in such a method. The intumescent sheet material is used as a packing in positioning car exhaust gas catalyst supports in containers.
