Abstract

1513636 Novolak films and fibres MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES LTD 18 Oct 1976 [21 Oct 1975 18 March 1976] 43237/76 Heading B5B Films and fibres are prepared by extruding a novolak resin obtained by reacting a resol with a phenol under neutral or acidic conditions, then curing the film or fibre with an aldehyde. Curing is effected either with an acid catalyst or first in both an acid catalyst followed by treatment in the presence of a basic catalyst. Films and fibres may also be formed from mixtures of the novolak with polyamides or the films or fibres may be etherified or esterified to block free hydroxyl groups.
