Abstract

1512676 Making printing plates L R GRONDOVSKI 26 Nov 1975 [2 Jan 1975] 48658/75 Heading B6C A process for making printing plates includes engraving a moulded plate e.g. of wax, applying an electrically conductive powder thereto, coating electrolytically with copper discarding the wax, spraying with tin on the side of the copper which was not in contact with the wax and casting on the tin a layer of e.g. molten lead and rectifying the surface before printing. The composition of the wax is given and the powder is silver or graphite. After electrolysis, which lasts for from 12-24 hours at a maximum voltage of 2 volts, the copper is removed from the wax by steam and the tin is applied. A soft cover piece of e.g. rubber is placed over the back of the material to be printed before printing takes place.
