Abstract

1512586 Boring earth etc. A JOHANSSON 28 Oct 1976 [24 Nov 1975] 44796/76 Heading E1F A device for forcing a pipe 4 into the ground 5, e.g. under a roadway, includes a channel shaped support and guide means 3 which is pivotally connected, in use, to the bucket arm 2 of an excavator 1, a hydraulic ram 6 detachably connected to the support and guide means 3 for thrusting the pipe 4 into the ground 5, and a hydraulic ram 8 for adjusting the angle of inclination of the support and guide means 3. The ram 6 is detachably connected to the support and guide means 3 by a bolt (not shown) passing through one of a series of holes 11 along each side of the guide means 3, the spacing of the holes 11 being equal to the stroke of the ram 6. After each stroke of the ram 6 the bolt 12 is removed, the ram 6 moved forwards and the bolt 12 inserted in the next pair of holes 11. The ram 6 is suspended in a carriage having wheels 14 which run along the support and guide means 3. Rollers 15 are provided at the front end of the support and guide means 3 to guide the pipe 4 which is provided with a pointed end member 16. The ram 6 is powered by hydraulic fluid from the excavator via valve 9. When inserting a pipe 4 under a roadway the device is located in a hole previously dug by the bucket excavator.
