151,252. Lanston Monotype Corporation, (Assignees of Indahl, M. C.). Sept. 12, 1919, [Convention date]. Single-type composing and casting machines. - Positioning-mechanism for the die-case, mould-dimensioning mechanism, or other adjustable element of a type composing and casting machine such as that described in Specification 8633/99, which is particularly applicable to the multiple-blade mould described in Specification 142,545, comprises a series of signal-controlled stop-pins or the like and a co-operating selecting plate or member which is coupled with the member to be adjusted, the mechanism moving direct from one position to another without returning to a zero position. In the arrangement described, two rows of stop-pins 33<a>, 33<b>, Fig. 4, which are operated in pairs by signals in the record-strip, are located beneath a selecting slide 26 which is movable in either direction by aircylinders 25, Fig. 5. The slide contains two overlapping slots 37a, 37b into which the pins rise, the plate permitting only one pin of a pair to rise except in one position in which the same signal is repeated and no movement of the slide is therefore necessary. The slide is moved until the inner end of one of the slots engages the raised stoppin by the appropriate air-cylinder 25 to which air is admitted by a valve operated by one of two pivoted bars 38, Fig. 5, each of which overlies one row of stop-pins. The slide acts through rack-and-pinion mechanism to rotate a shaft 61, Fig. 9, which is connected by screw-and-nut mechanism 65, 66 and a lever 68 with the mouldblade selecting slide 16. Since the slide 16 can only be adjusted when the mould-blades are in closed position, and the impulses due to the record-strip signals occur earlier, the actuated stop-pin is maintained in raised position by one of a set of detents 45<a>, Fig. 4. The admission of air to the cylinders 25 is controlled by a valve operated at the required time by a cam. A second cam operates a slide to release the detents 45a.
