1512411 Acylated phenylenediamines ELI LILLY & CO 26 June 1975 27076/75 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of the formulµ and wherein R‹ is a radical of the formula in which Y is hydrogen, chlorine, fluorine, difluoromethyl, C 1 to C 6 perfluoroalkyl, or a radical of the formula in which each Z independently is hydrogen or halogen and n is 0 or 1; R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen, a radical -COOY<SP>1</SP> (in which Y<SP>1</SP> is C 1 to C 4 alkyl or phenyl), benzoyl, furoyl, naphthyl, or substituted benzoyl of the formula (in which each Z<SP>1</SP> independently is halo or nitro, Z<SP>11</SP> is C 1 to C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, p is 0, 1 or 2, q is 0 or 1, and p+q is 1 to 3); R<SP>2</SP> is R<SP>0</SP>, R<SP>1</SP>, C 1 to C 8 alkanoyl, C 3 to C 4 alkenoyl, C 3 to C 4 alkynoyl, or halogenated C 2 to C 4 alkanoyl bearing on any position(s) one or more halogen atoms, subject to the limitation that the alpha position bears at least one substituent selected from hydrogen and halogen of atomic weight from 35 to 127 inclusive; each R<SP>3</SP> independently is halogen; R<SP>4</SP> is nitro; R<SP>5</SP> is trifluoromethyl, difluoromethyl, or difluorochloromethyl, and in compounds of Formula (II), R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> are meta to one another; R<SP>6</SP> is C 1 to C 4 alkylsulphonyl and is in the 4- or 5-position, and any R<SP>4</SP> is meta to R<SP>6</SP>; m is from 0 to 4; n is 0 or 1; and in Formula (I), m+n is 1 to 4; subject to the further limitation that when R<SP>1</SP> or R<SP>2</SP> is hydrogen, the position ortho to the -NH-R<SP>1</SP> or -NH-R<SP>2</SP> group bears one of the R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, or R<SP>6</SP> groups. They may be prepared by reacting compounds of the formulµ with an acylating agent of the formula or an active derivative thereof. The compounds of the invention are pesticides and may be used as active ingredients in herbicidal, insecticidal, parasiticidal, arachnicidal, anthelmintic and nematocidal compositions.
