Abstract
1512233 Level sensing MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 17 March 1975 [20 March 1974 (3) 20 May 1974] 11024/75 Heading G1G [Also in Division H4] Apparatus for sensing the level of liquid or fluent solid material in a container includes a Piezoelectric element 3 bonded to a tubular body arranged to contact the material, an oscillator circuit E of which the Piezo-electric element is part, and a circuit F, G, H for detecting a change in the oscillator output due to a change in the impedance of element 3 dependent on damping of the vibrations of the tubular body by the material. For the embodiment shown, lamp H is turned off when the level of engine oil is sufficient to contact the tubular body, since circuit E stops oscillating. A negative temperature coefficient thermistor 17 also stops the oscillator when the oil temperature is so low that the oil gels. Details of alternative probes, each comprising a flexure mode element 3, with or without the thermistor 17, within a tubular body, are given, Figs. 1, 12, 13, 14 and 18 (not shown).
