Abstract

1512055 Winding transfer tails TEIJIN Ltd 16 July 1975 [25 July 1975] 29835/75 Headings DID and D1J A transfer tail 5, Fig. 1, is wound on a bobbin such that at least one turn has a V-shaped path the base of which is directed towards the normal winding area of the bobbin, the V-shape being overlapped by at least one additional turn of the transfer tail. Fig. 6 shows a winding spindle 11, 13, 16 driven by a belt 19. On the part 13 is a waste spool 30 and above the waste spool 30 is a bobbin 3. At the start of a winding operation a yarn traversing mechanism reciprocates the yarn back and forth between the flanges 31 of the waste spool 30 until all the waste yarn has been taken up. The traverse means then raises the yarn upwardly beyond the spool 30 and onto the bobbin 3. At the instant that the yarn moves beyond the upper flange 31 of the waste spool 30 the turns of yarn that are laid on the curved surface 20 of a guide member 21 ride upwardly on the curved surface 20 and onto the bobbin 3 to be covered by succeeding turns that also ride up on the curved surface 20. In this manner a transfer tail is wound that contains several turns overlapped by other turns. The remainder of the winding is wound with the traverse means reciprocating back and forth along the package receiving length of the bobbin 3. When the package is complete the yarn is cut between the waste spool 30 and the transfer winding at the lower end of the bobbin 3. In Fig. 6 the guide member 21 is rockable about a pivot 25. When the bobbin 3 is absent, a spring 34 rocks the tip 22 of the guide member 21 anti-clockwise. When a bobbin 3 is pushed into position it engages a flat surface 23 of the guide member 21 and rocks it clockwise so that the tip 22 engages the bobbin 3. This prevents any turns of the transfer winding from slipping down between the guide member 21 and the bobbin 3. In a modified embodiment, Fig. 8 (not shown), the spring 34 of Fig. 6 is absent and, instead, the guide member 21 has a weighted end that depends downwardly into the opening in the part 13. When the spindle is rotated, centrifugal force on the weight causes the tip 22 of the guide member 21 to be biassed towards the bobbin 3. As shown in Fig. 7 the upper flange 31 of the waste spool 30 may have a cut-out 33 which is preferably so arranged that, in the driving condition, the guide member 20, 21 is angularly offset from the position of the cutout at an angle # in the range of from 10 degrees to 45 degrees. Fig. 9 (not shown) differs from Fig. 7 in that the guide member 21, (29) is fixedly mounted on the upper flange 31 of the waste spool. Fig. 10 (not shown) differs from Fig. 9 in that the guide member 21, (29) is part of a ring (44) which is mounted on the wind-up spindle just above the waste spool 30. Each winding of the transfer tail wind portion that is formed in a superimposed condition may have its superimposed portion extending less than #th of the circumferential length of the bobbin.
