Abstract

1511684 Finishing textiles CIBA-GEIGY AG 9 July 1975 [11 July 1974] 28925/75 Headings D1B and DID 1 part of an organic textile material is treated with 0.8 to 5 parts of an aqueous solution or dispersion of a finishing agent, the material being maintained below the uptake temperature of the finishing agent and subject to mechanical treatment during application of the liquor then heated to fix the finishing agent. In example 1 the agent is the combination of dyestuffs is used and in example 3 an amphoteric fatty acid polyamide softener is used. Alternatively the finishing agent may be an unspecified agent for optical brightening, moth-proofing, water-proofing, flame-proofing, staticproofing, shrinkproofing, creaseproofing, desizing and bleaching. The liquor is preferably applied by spraying, or atomising liquor not taken up being returned to the material via a pump until it is completely taken up, or by padding. The material may be subject to a continuous movement in a closed or pressure resistant apparatus, e.g. a Jet, winch, beck or drum dyeing apparatus, during the application of the liquor and then steam or hot air is applied for 5 to 60 minutes to raise the temperature to 95 to 130‹C to fix the finishing agent on the textile material. The textile material may comprise, piece goods, woven fabrics, knitted fabrics, fleeces, yarn or tufted carpet or other textile floor covering. It may be formed from fibres of wool, silk, cotton, linen, nylon 6, 66, 11, a mixture of nylon 6 and nylon 66, polyurethane, viscose rayon, cuprammonium rayon, cellulose 2¢ acetate, cellulose triacetate, polyolefin, acrylonitrile, polyvinylidene chloride, polyesters formed from terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol or 1, 4-d'-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexane, and blends of polyester with wool, cotton or rayon.
