Condensers.-The rotatable vanes 1 are connected by gearing 8, 9 with an operating-handle 7 and index member 20, the ratio of the gearing being 2 : 1 or slightly less, so that the angular movement of the handle and index member is approximately twice that of the vanes. Steep-angle helical gearing is preferably used in order to avoid backlash.
