1510659 Automatic exchange systems SOC ITALIANA TELECOMUNICAZIONISIEMENS SpA 23 May 1975 [17 June 1974] 22690/75 Heading H4K [Also in Division G4] A "page" of data held in a data bank is displayed on a T.V. set or monitor screen via a telephone system by dialling the address of a desired data bank, the engaged tone confirming connection, pressing a control button to connect the telephone line to an adapter circuit connected to the T.V. set or monitor, dialling the address of a "page" in the data bank, the address being stored and displayed, pressing the control button again to send the address to the data bank and display the "page" sent back in response on the screen. The control button switches off one of a pair of LEDs (D 1 , D 2 ) optically coupled to transistors (T 1 , T 2 ) to connect the dialling output to a coder (UC) and switch flipflops (FF 1 , FF 2 ) to connect the telephone line to the adapter circuit. The dialling page address, between start and stop bits, is assembled in a buffer MB for display (see later, for display of page). When the control button is pressed the address is serialized by a converter SP and transmitted via modem MD to the data bank. Data from the bank enters via modem MD, and each character is staticized by converter SP, buffered by MB and assembled into a page in register MQ. Each line is recirculated 10 times through a line register MR, switch CO and page register MQ while character generators GC generate a corresponding line of the display in which each character is a 7 Î 5 matrix, there being 3 blank sweeps between lines. The output of GC is serialized at PS fed via V.H.F. modulator MO to the aerial input of the T.V. set.
