1510211 Carotene UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA REGENTS OF 4 April 1975 [5 April 1974] 13972/75 Heading C2V Beta-Carotene is prepared by reacting retinal with a soluble and reactive Ti(II) species which may be prepared in situ by reducing TiCl 3 or TiCl 4 with Mg, LiAlH 4 , Zn, LiBH 4 or CaH 2 in an inert dry solvent, e.g. THF.
