Abstract

151,011. Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co., (Aissignees of Bastian, A. J.). Sept. 13, 1919, [Convention date]. Toothed wheels.-A toothed gear-wheel is formed of layers of sheet cork and woven or fibrous material such as duck or paper, the layers being impregnated with a phenolic condensation product as a binder. The sheets are divided into segments which are assembled to form the gear blank, the cork segments being interspersed with the tougher segments so that no two cork segments are in contact. The blank thus assembled is moulded by heat and pressure, the teeth being cut subsequently. The toothed wheel shown in Fig. 1 comprises a central support or spider 1 with roughened periphery 5 upon which the outer toothed portion is preferably moulded, the layers consisting of duck or other fabric segments 3 and cork segments 4. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the application of the invention to " like machine elements " and the use of shellac, copal, or other varnish gum or gum resin as a binder. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
