Abstract

1509381 Seals M M HASHA 20 March 1975 [6 May 1974 16 Sept 1974] 11597/75 Heading F2B A pipe joint leakage tester, see also Division G1, comprises a cylindrical body 20, Fig. 2, arranged to surround static pipes 17, 18 to be tested with their connector 19, the elastomeric seals 22, 23 and 40 being held apart and positioned as shown by spacers 37, 38, 39 and locking means 45 so that pressure fluid pumped through ducts 22, 25 and 29 into chambers behind the seals causes the seals to be radially moved in their slots and compressed against the pipes. The seal 40 has upper and lower garter back up springs, but the seals 22, 23 have converging sloping faces supported by triangular sectioned back up segments 80a held together by screwed pins 90, 91. In Fig. 3, the segments are shown spaced apart when the fluid pressure is absent, but the segments are brought into contact as shown with one another and the pipes when pressure is exerted by the fluid.
