Abstract

1508812 Polyester films and sheets ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 15 July 1975 [16 July 1974 24 Feb 1975] 29637/75 Heading C3R A film or sheet is made from a composition (C) comprising (E) poly(ethylene terephthalate) and (B) bisphenol-A polycarbonate resin where by weight based on (E) + (B) there is 60-85% (E) and 40-15% (B) and where #intrinsic of (E) #0À90 and of (B) is 0À4 to 1À2. 5-20% weight of a non-acidic silica filler (S) may be present. The film may be non-oriented, have impact reistance #550 g. at 23.3‹ C. and shrink by #5% in any dimension when heated at 204À4‹ C. for 10 minutes. (E) may have crystallinity 20-40%; (B) may be non-crystalline (S) which may be novaculite, of particle size #100 Ám. 1-5% TiO2 based on (C) may also be present as may C black, glass, alumina carbonates, or glass fibres. (S) may be mixed with (E) of (B) or with a blend of (E) and (B). (C) is optionally dried at 100-300‹ F. The film may be made by melt-extruding (C) e.g. at 500-600‹ F. on to a moving support whose surface is at 107À2-193À3‹ C. and collecting without stretching when cool. The film may be moulded into heat-resistant trays.
