Abstract

1507882 Compositions of modified methacrylate oligomers ROHM & HAAS CO 29 April 1975 [6 May 1974 21 Oct 1974] 17662/75 Headings C3P and C3V Coating and impregnating compositions free of high molecular weight film-forming polymer contain at least one salt of a partially hydrolysed methacrylic ester oligomer having an average carboxy content of at least 2-7 per chain and an average chain length of 6-25 mer units. Suitable oligomers are made in the examples by partial hydrolysis, using NaOH, of methyl methacrylate or methyl methacrylate/butyl methacrylate oligomers, following by neutralization with ammonia. The compositions, which are especially intended as aqueous floor polishes, may also contain a wax, an alkali-soluble resin, a polyvalent metal compound, a solvent, and one or more wetting, emulsifying, plasticizing and/or dispersing agents. In examples, the following are actually used as such additional components: diethylene glycol mono-methyl or mono-ethyl ether, hexylene glycol, caprolactam, a fluorocarbon surfactant, tributoxyethyl phosphate, polyethylene, an alkali-soluble resin and Zn(NH3)CO3.
