Abstract
1507844 Vinyl halide/polyether graft polymers HOOKER CHEMICALS & PLASTICS CORP 26 June 1975 [1 July 1974] 27136/75 Heading C3P A graft polymer is produced by bulk polymerization of a vinyl or vinylidene halide in the presence of 0À1 to 20% by weight of a polyether of a cyclic oxide and a free radical catalyst. Examples are given in which vinyl chloride is grafted on to (a) polyepichlorohydrin in the presence of acetyl cyclohexane sulphonyl peroxide and di-2-ethylhexyl peroxy dicarbonate, (b) polypropylene oxide containing allyl glycidyl ether units using said peroxide and lauroyl peroxide and (c) epichlorohydrin/ ethylene oxide copolymer using a catalyst as in (a). The copolymer in (c) is present, as may be the polyepichlorohydrin in (a) as a coprecipitate with polyvinyl chloride, the coprecipitate acting as seed polymer in the bulk polymerization reaction.
