Abstract

1506625 Recording tape transports LICENTIA PATENT VERWALTUNGS GmbH 24 April 1975 [24 April 1974 4 March 1975] 17068/75 Heading G5R A tape transport incorporates a device for stopping a drive motor and/or for altering the torque transmitted by a slipping clutch to a tape take-up element when the take-up element slows down or stops. In a device for stopping the drive to the takeup element 28 should the latter stop or run too slow, e.g. due to tape jamming in a cassette, the slipping clutch is formed by a felt ring 29, Fig. 3, between element 28 and a drive element 36 driven by roller 30 of motor 34. An epicyclic gear assembly has a planet wheel 8 located on a carrier 9 and engaging a gear 2, driven from element 36 via gear 32, 33, and engaging a gear 12 driven by a gear 16 on element 28. During normal operation carrier 9 rotates around shaft 1 of gear 2 in one direction, but rotates in the opposite direction if element 28 stops or slows down too much and thereby causes, e.g. by ratchet teeth (17), (18), Fig. 2 (not shown), movement of a slider 20 to open or switch to stop motor 34. In a device for increasing the torque transmitted by the slipping clutch if the take-up element slows down too much, whereby constant tape tension and even winding may be maintained, the drive motor rotates drive element 36, Fig. 4, driving take-up element 28 via clutch 29, and a gearing assembly 51, which may be similar to the epicyclic assembly in Fig. 3, has a planet gear coupled to two gears driven by elements 28, 36, respectively so that a part 54 of a further clutch 54, 55 rotates with the planet gear carrier. During normal operation clutch part 54 rotates in direction 53 thereby driving, via teeth 61, 62, part 55 of the further clutch in direction 56. At a predetermined speed of element 28, part 54 rotates in direction' 52 whereby, because part 55 is prevented from rotating in direction 52 by a free-wheel arrangement 57, part 54 displaces part 55 axially to compress spring 59 thereby increasing the torque transmitted by clutch 29 and speeding up takeup element 28. Should parts 54, 55 become relatively displaced by such an extent that, due to the shape of teeth 61, 62, part 55 jumps back axially to its normal position, such jumping back may be used to de-energize the drive motor. Alternative gearing arrangements coupling the two sides of the clutch together and sensing the relative speeds thereof are described with reference to Figs. 2, 5 and 6 (not shown). The devices are interconnected with a pause control so that operation of the latter does not cause the device to effect drive disconnection and/or increased torque of the slipping clutch. Two devices associated respectively with tape supply and take-up reels enable automatic drive disconnection in the above manner during fast forward wind and rewind, recording and playback.
