Abstract

1506232 Measuring thickness FORTH INSTRUMENTS Ltd 22 March 1976 [25 March 1975] 12344/75 Headings G1M and G1N The same apparatus in combination with an area measurer is disclosed in Specification 1506231. Apparatus for measuring the thickness of an article includes, above a conveyer belt A, a carrier 12 supporting transducer 11 and lever 14 pivoted at 15, with arm 14a bearing on the article H and arm 14b on spring-loaded sensing rod 17 to the linear displacement of which transducer 11 gives to a display a D.C. output voltage in direct proportion, and a datum member 19 in register with arm 14. Carrier 12 is slidably supported on bars 13. Arm 14a has roller 16 in register with block or roller 19 which maintains the conveyer height, and arm 14b having a wedge shaped surface which is in operable contact with sliding contact 17a of rod 17 of transducer 11. Spring 18 is in tension. Photo-cell 21 detects the presence of hide H. Electronic processing may give mean, smallest and largest readings or the percentage above or below a certain thickness or the thickness at a certain point.
