Abstract

1,113,882. Measuring linear dimensions. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1965 [Oct. 7, 1964], No. 40814/64. Heading G1M. In apparatus for determining the thickness of a discrete layer in a laminate, the specimen 2 is clamped on a base 9 with its laminated edge adjacent the knife edge 16 of an indicator member. The position of the knife edge is adjusted by relative movement of wedge blocks 17, 20 by a lead screw 24. In operation, the knife edge 16 is first raised to the upper surface of the sample and its position determined by dial indicators 32, 33, and then lowered to the lower edge of the laminate layer and a second set of readings taken. A magnifying lens is provided to ensure correct adjustment of the knife edge. The thickness of each layer is gauged by calculating the average difference of the dial indicator readings.
