1504828 1-Alkyl (or aryl)-sulphinyl-1-alkyl (or aryl) - thio - 2 - aryl - ethylenes SAGAMI CHEMICAL RESEARCH CENTRE 26 Nov 1976 [28 Nov 1975 1 Dec 1975] 49520/76 Heading C2C Novel compounds (I) where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are alkyl or aryl, are made by interacting 3 - chloro - 4 - allyloxybenzaldehyde and R<SP>1</SP>SCH 2 SOR<SP>2</SP> in the presence of a base. The invention also comprises a process for making (3 - chloro - 4 - allyloxyphenyl)acetic acid or its esters by hydrolysing (I) using aqueous or alcoholic mineral acid.
