1504725 SO3 preparation; contact process HOECHST AG 11 April 1975 [13 April 1974] 15005/75 Heading C1A SO 3 is prepared by contacting "technically pure" (>80% by volume) SO 2 and "technical" oxygen (>90% by volume) in a tubular heat exchanger in the presence of a catalyst. In the example SO 2 (>99% pure) and O 2 (>99% pure) are reacted using a V 2 O 5 /Al 2 O 3 filler.
