Abstract

1504294 6#-Fluoro-pregnadienes G PALLADINO 24 Feb 1975 [5 March 1974] 9728/74 Heading C2U Novel steroids have the formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are each H or 2-8C alkanoyl; X is keto, #-OH or #-Cl; Y is F or Cl but is not F when X is Cl; Z is H, α-OH, α-CH 3 or #-CH 3 but when X is other than #-Cl then Z is not H when R<SP>1</SP> is H. Also novel are the 16α,17α- acetonides and 16α-(C 2-8 alkanoates) of those steroids wherein Z is α-OH and R<SP>1</SP> is H. These compounds are prepared as illustrated in the following reaction scheme wherein Ac is acetyl and R is C 2-8 alkanoyl. The 11-ketones are obtained by oxidation of the 11#- ols. The preparation of #<SP>9(11)</SP>-starting materials is described in Specification 1,504,295. The novel steroids are anti-inflammatory agents and they may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
