Abstract

1504291 Drying ink BEASLEY FRENCH & CO Ltd 14 April 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 03868/74 Heading B6C [Also in Divisions F4 and H5] An ultra-violet irradiation apparatus for drying ink on printed material 13 comprises an elongate array of tubular ultra-violet lamps 22 in a housing through which the material is conveyed, the length of the array extending over the full width of the material 13 and the individual lamps 22 being substantially shorter than the length of the array and extending in a direction at least partially transverse to that length. Curved or planar reflectors can be provided behind the lamps 22. The lamps 22 can extend between ducts 26 through which cooling air is forced. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the apparatus installed in an otherwise conventional sheet-fed printing machine.
