1504164 Bag filling machine; feeding sheets BERNHARD BEUMER MASCHINENFABRIK KG 2 May 1975 [3 May 1974 20 Feb 1975] 18547/75 Headings B8C and B8R Apparatus for mounting valve bags on a spout of a filling machine for cement and like material comprises an arm 6 pivotably movable to take bags 1 individually from a magazine 4 to the spout 2, and carrying a pivoted lever 31 supporting a roller 26 which renders a top end portion 21 of a bag perpendicular to the sides of the bag to provide a T-section formation which is squeezed as converging members 28 also carried by the lever 31, pass thereover to open the bag valve 30 which is placed over the spout 2. The bag 1 is carried on to the spout 2 by a clamping device 34 carried by the arm 6 and actuated by a piston-cylinder device 37, which disengages the clamp when the arm 6 strikes a switch actuator 38. A bag filling machine of the rotary type may carry an arm 6 for each filling nozzle, Fig. 12 (not shown), the bags being picked up from a single magazine. The rotation may be intermittent or continuous in which case, the arms 6 are movable transverse to their pivoting planes (not detailed). Feeding bags from the magazine.-The magazine, which may be tilted as a whole about a pivot 12, Fig. 1, for accessibility, comprises a movable abutment 13, Fig. 3, pushing a bag stack forwards, in one embodiment, a reciprocating slide 14 having on its leading end spring loaded wedge members 22, Figs. 4, 6, which engage under the flattened bag top 21 to unfold it to lie oblique to the bag body as the bag is slid in its own plane, off the stack into the path of the arm 6. In another arrangement, Figs. 8, 10B, 11B, the bag stack is pushed towards a rotatable abutment plate 14 carrying three series of grippers (only one series shown), each series consisting of reciprocating plates 55, 56 which advance to engage under both folded bottom 41<SP>1</SP> and top 41 of the leading bag 1<SP>1</SP> so that rotation of the disc carries it 120 degrees to a pick-up position 51. A releaseable clamp 50 is associated with the plate 55.
