Abstract

1504153 Testing-machine suspensions CARL SCHENCK AG 16 May 1975 [11 June 1974] 20946/75 Heading G1S [Also in Division F2] A fatigue or resonance testing machine frame, including a loading device 6, 7 and a chuck 9 for specimens to be tested, is suspended from supports 5 by pendulum beams 4 so that horizontal vibrations of the machine are not transmitted to the supports. As shown the machine comprises chuck heads 9 for gripping a specimen 8 between a countermass 2 and crosshead 3, and cylinders 6, 7 for applying preloads and alternating loads to the specimen. The beams 4 may take the form of leafsprings or may be rods with flexure joints or rotary bearings, e.g. self-aligning spherical bearings, at each end. As in Fig. 3 (not shown) each beam may comprise two parallel leaf-springs (24), (25) each attached between pivotally mounted crossbars (22), (23) whose bearings may include height adjustment means. Elements 14 may be provided to damp horizontal movement of the machine frame and to lock the machine frame to its supports when necessary.
