Abstract
1503957 Detecting flaws SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 23 May 1975 [22 June 1974] 22858/75 Heading G1N Apparatus for optical and/or inductive surface testing of a workpiece 1 comprises optical and inductive probes 7, 8 respectively, an air bearing 2 to support the workpiece during testing which bearing has an aperture 6 arranged so that a portion of the surface of the workpiece which is to be tested is exposed to the probe, drive means in the form of wheels 9, being provided for co-operation with the ends of the workpiece whereby the workpiece is rotated in use and is located axially by the drive wheels. In an alternative embodiment Fig. 2 (not shown) drive is by means of a pair of discs each having a conical bore (11) for frictional engagement with workpiece end-faces or, Fig. 3 (not shown) by conical insert members (13) engaging in the bore at opposed ends of a tubular workpiece, or Fig. 4 (not shown) by means of a pair of wheels (14) coaxial with the workpiece and having recessed faces with high friction linings for engagement with axial end-faces of the workpiece.
