Abstract

1503921 Making combustion chambers ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd 19 Dec 1975 [24 Dec 1974] 55769/74 Heading B3A A method of making combustion chambers for gas turbine engines comprises electro-chemically machining a series of grooves 3 in one or both of strips 1, 2, bonding strips 1, 2 together, forming the bonded strips into an annulus 7 and bonding the annulus 7 between two cylindrical wall members 11, 12, 13. Alternatively, the grooves may be formed directly in an upset or deformed portion of the cylindrical wall members. The grooves 3 form holes allowing the entry of cooling air, and may be slanted to give the air a swirl, rough sided or have their ends chamfered or flared to affect the air flow.
