Abstract
1503319 Electrical detonating circuits R J REDDING 5 Dec 1975 [12 Dec 1974] 53872/74 Heading H2H Apparatus for releasing the extinguishant in a fire extinguisher comprises an eletrically operated detonator 5, an energy storage device 14 and a circuit 6 operative in response to a voltage applied thereto to charge the storage device whilst the applied voltage has one polarity and to discharge the stored energy into the detonator to operate the detonator when the polarity of the applied voltage is changed. When a switch 1 is set to connect the positive supply line to a line 3, the capacitor 14 is charged via a diode 13. On reversing the switch 1, the diode 13 becomes non-conductive and a Zener diode 18 conducts to apply a trigger signal to a thyristor 16. The capacitor discharges through the conductive thyristor and the detonator which explodes to rupture an extinguishant container (not shown). If the capacitor 14 does not become fully charged, a thyristor 20 does not conduct so that the lack of potential at a test terminal 21 may be used to operate an alarm. A number of detonators may be fired simultaneously or in sequence. The storage device 14 may be an electrolytic cell or a nickel-cadmium cell.
