Abstract

1503308 Hot water generators VAPOR CORP 28 Jan 1975 [28 Jan 1974] 52098/74 Heading F4A A hot water generator for use in testing components (e.g. heat exchanger 47) over a range of water temperatures comprises a combustion section 21 leading via a constriction 23 into a coil section 22 containing a helical water tube, a test circuit 45 interconnecting coil inlet and outlet and containing a pump 46, a fuel (fossil fuel) supply pipe 30 having a metering valve 31, a combustion air blower 32 having a damper 34, a bleed line 35 upstream of the damper feeding air to the fuel line, and an actuator 38 which acts on the metering valve 31 and the damper 34 in response to a controller 39; the controller combining a set point value with a signal representing the output temperature of the coil at 41 to allow the temperature of the water to remain within the range in which boiling does not occur. The load can be of any suitable form and valves can be tested at positions 48, 49. Capacity of the generator is matched to the load and for a high capacity load several generators can be connected in parallel (Fig. 2, not shown) via suitable manifolds. Specification 1,503,309 has identical description and claims the method of shock testing piping components using this generator.
