Abstract
1503164 Temperature responsive actuating devices SATCHWELL CONTROLS Ltd 4 Aug 1976 [2 Sept 1975] 36081/75 Heading G1D A temperature responsive actuator of the kind comprising a casing 1 containing a thermally expansible material 8, e.g. a wax and copper dust mixture, changes in volume of which displace an actuating element 7, the casing being surrounded by heating 9 or cooling (not shown) means, includes a temperature sensor 12 on the casing controlling means to switch off the heating or cooling means when the element 7 is in its desired position. As shown, the sensor 12, a thermistor is connected to an amplifier 15 which also receives a signal 16 corresponding to the desired position of the element 7. The amplifier output passes to a triac 18 in an A.C. circuit to the heater 9. When the signal from the thermistor is less than that of 16 the triac conducts and the heater receives power. When the reverse is the case, the triac switches the heater off. A steady state is reached dependant in the signal 16. The liquid-solid phase change of the material may be used to produce actuation.
