Abstract

1503025 1,3-di-(Hydroxyalkyl)-perimidones CIBA-GEIGY AG 30 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 45018/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Novel 1,3-di-(hydroxyalkyl)-perimidones of the formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or phenyl; R 1 and R 1 <SP>1</SP> are hydrogen; or R and R 1 together or R 1 and R 1 <SP>1</SP> together represent a tri- or tetra-methylene radical; Y and Z are nitro, amino, fluorine, chlorine or bromine; n and n<SP>1</SP> are 0 or 1 and m and m<SP>1</SP> are 0 to 3, are prepared by adding 2 moles of formaldehyde or 2 moles of an alkylene oxide of the formula to 1 mole of a compound of the formula preferably in the presence of a catalyst, e.g. lithium or sodium chloride. The novel compounds are useful intermediates in the preparation of various polymers.
