Abstract

1502996 Bearings SKF INDUSTRIAL TRADING & DEVELOPMENT CO BV 2 May 1975 [3 May 1974] 18502/75 Heading F2A A bearing seat for seating a rolling bearing is made from a moulded material and comprises a helical member moulded into the material, the member having a different linear expansion coefficient to that of the moulded material and presenting a helical surface for direct contact with a race ring of the bearing. Where the helical member is of the same material as that of the race ring, e.g. steel, its presence alters the thermal expansion characteristics of the seat to approximate to those of the race ring. A method of making the seat comprises positioning a helical member so as to be an interference fit on a cylindrical mandrel 1 or in a cylindrical mould cavity and moulding the seat with suitable material, such as an epoxy plastics, so that the member is embedded in the material but has a seating surface exposed for direct contact with the race ring. The member may be provided with electrical terminals for earthing.
