Abstract

1502966 Dyeing untanned pelts with sulphur dyes R W HALLIWELL 11 Aug 1976 [19 May 1975] 21113/75 Heading D1B Un-tanned pelts e.g. sheep skin, pig skin, are dyed at any of several stages before tanning i.e. liming, deliming, depickling, bating, and raw soaking, by drumming using sulphur dyes in alkaline liquors. Watersoluble sulphur dyes may be applied in reduced form using sodium hydrogen sulphide as reducing agent. When not wishing to remove hair from the pelts e.g. sheep skins, the pelts may be wet salted, soaked and washed, solubilised sulphur dye being added to the second soaking liquor thus producing a pelt of which the skin is dyed but not the hair which may be left undyed or dyed afterwards using a different dye.
