Abstract

1502963 Polymerisation catalysts ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 7 May 1975 [7 May 1974] 19149/75 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] A catalyst which is used for polymerising ethylene is prepared by reacting (A) a compound of the formula R 2 HSiOAlXX' where each R is a hydrocarbon radical, X is halogen and X' is halogen or a hydrocarbon radical, (B) a low valency titanium compound containing at least one halogen per Ti atom and (c) a compound of the formula Ti(OR) 4 (A) may be prepared by reacting an organoaluminium halide with a polysiloxane. (B) may be prepared by reducing a Ti halide or alkoxyhalide with a metal, H 2 an organometallic compound, a polysiloxane or a compound (A). In the examples catalysts are prepared by reacting as (A) HMeEtSiOAlEtCl, HMe 2 SiOAlCl 2 , HMePrSiOAlPrI, HMe Hexyl SiOAI Hexyl Cl (or the octyl or butyl analogous compounds) HPhEtSiOAIEtBr or H cyclohexyl EtSiOAlEtI, as (C) Ti(OR) 4 where R is methyl, butyl, propyl, octyl, phenyl, ethyl or cyclohexyl and as (B) TiCl 4 , TiBr, or alkoxy or phenoxy halides of titanium reduced in many different ways.
