Abstract
1502709 Luminescent compositions DAI NIPPON TORYO CO Ltd 29 June 1976 [3 July 1975 (2)] 00041/77 Divided out of 1502707 Heading C4S A fluorescent composition contains (i) In 2 O 3 and (ii) a phosphor of Y 2 O 2 S:Eu, Y 2 O 3 :Eu or YVO 4 :Eu or a mixture of two or more of the phosphors, the two components (i) and (ii) being in a weight ratio in the range 1:9 to 9:1. Applications, including details of low velocity (e.g. < 100 eV) electron beam fluorescent devices (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) which may produce multicolour displays, types of In 2 O 3 and pretreatments, &c. are as in the parent Specification. The Y 2 O 2 S phosphor may be prepared by adding S and Na 2 CO 3 as a flux to a mix of Eu 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 then firing in air at 1200 to 1300 C. Y 2 O 3 phosphor may be formed by adding one of specified boric compounds as flux to Eu 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 and firing at 1300 to 1400 C. YVO 4 may be formed by mixing V 2 O 5 with Eu 2 O 3 and Y 2 O 3 and firing at 1000 to 1100 C. in air. The Y 2 O 3 and Eu 2 O 3 mix may be mechanically formed or by dissolving ingredients in nitric acid and adding oxalic acid to produce oxalate coprecipitates which are then pyrolysed. Emission characteristics are detailed (Figs. 4a-4c, 5a-5c, not shown).
