Abstract

1502449 Washing vegetable roots or tubers SOC FRANCO-EUROPEENNE DE MATERIEL POUR L'INDUSTRIE ALIMENTAIRE 1 May 1975 [17 May 1974] 18214/75 Heading A4C Vegetable roots and tubers are cleaned in a pair of aligned troughs 2 each vibrated by an unbalanced motor 5, the roots being fed on to the downstream end of the upper run of a conveyer and after falling into a trough being moved along the troughs by blades 6 spaced along the conveyer, water sprayed from pipes 18 running down the troughs in the opposite direction and being recycled by a motor driven pump 22 after filtering in a rotary gauze filter 25. The conveyer is driven by an electric motor 17 via a chain 14 and drives the filter from a toothed pulley 11 via a chain. The troughs are inclined and have corrugated bases, the blades moving a few centimeters thereabove. The water from the pump is supplied via a main pipe 20 and valves 21.
