Abstract

1502355 Sound attenuation in ducts LICENCIA TALALMANYOKAT ERTEKESITO VALLALAT 17 Sept 1975 [18 Sept 1974] 38190/75 Heading F1B [Also in Divisions F3-4] A sound attenuating device comprises a non- straight duct 1 in which at least one baffle element 3 is located at a region where in use fluid flowing through the duct changes direction, the or each baffle element having a thickness of from 2 to 10 cm. and, where there is a plurality of baffle elements, they do not occupy more than 30% of the total cross-sectional area of the duct, the or each baffle element being arcuate with one curved surface imperforate and the other at least partially perforated and containing sound absorbent material. Preferably, the total thickness of the baffle elements does not exceed 30% of the total width of the duct. The baffle elements are preferably asymmetrically arranged in the duct with respect to the centre line thereof and the upstream and downstream tips of the baffle elements may lie in planes which are not parallel to one another. At least one baffle element may have a reduced curvature adjacent either its upstream or downstream end.
