Abstract

1502353 Ear plugs L C C ASKER 2 Sept 1975 [6 Sept 1974] 36121/75 Heading A5R An ear protection plug comprises a P.V.C. inner body 1 having at its forward end a generally frusto-conical rearwardly extending yieldable cap 2 and a conical cavity 3 which opens at the forward end of the body and thus increases the resiliency of body 1 towards its forward end, the cavity being sealed near the trailing edge of the cap, by a yieldable rear wall 4 formed by a rear portion of the body 1 and having a rearwardly extending pin 5. In use the pin 5 is grasped by the user and cap 2 is inserted into the acoustic meatus of the ear, lying tightly against its wall, the wall 4 being pressed inwards and reducing the cavity volume. After insertion pin 5 is released, wall 4 assumes its original position, the air pressure in the cavity decreases and the plug is thus prevented from falling from the ear. A string (6) Figs. 3, 4 (not shown) is integrally moulded with the pin 5, Fig. 4 or with a sleeve (7), Fig. 3, fitting over the pin 5 which includesan annular head 10. A second plug is fixed to the other end of the string for insertion in the other ear of the user. The volume of the cavity 3 is 50-100mm<SP>3</SP>, its diameter is 4mm and its depth is at least 6mm.
