Abstract

1502339 Extraction of triphenylphosphine oxide from oxo-synthesis residues MONTEDISON SpA 9 June 1975 [11 June 1974] 24671/75 Heading C2P A process for the selective extraction of triphenylphosphine oxide from distillation tails resulting from the use in an oxo synthesis of a catalytic system including a salt or hydride of a Group VIII metal and an organic biphyllic ligand comprises treating the tails at a temperature above the melting point of the tails with mixtures of water and one or more polar organic compounds to form a polar phase containing most of the triphenylphosphine oxide and another phase. Preferred organic compounds are alcohols, ketones, nitriles and amides of 1-8 C atoms. Any Group VIII metal triphenylphosphine complex in the polar phase is preferably recovered either by extraction with a hydrocarbon solvent or by cooling and/or mixing with water.
