Abstract
1501886 Chiral phosphines F HOFFMANNLA ROCHE & CO AG 30 Oct 1975 [31 Oct 1974] 03842/77 Divided out of 1501885 Heading C2P The invention comprises chiral phosphines of the general formulae wherein Ar is phenyl or m-tolyl, R 7 is aryl or substituted aryl and R 8 is aryl or a C 1 -C 6 alkyl group. The phosphines may be obtained by reacting tetrahydrofuran solutions of chiral 2-phenyl-2-methoxyethyl tosylate with a lithium diaryl (or aryl alkyl) phosphide and an example is given for the preparation of (+)-(2-phenyl-2- methoxyethyl)diphenyl phosphine. The products are useful for preparing rhodium complexes useful as hydrogenation catalysts in the production of optically active carboxylic acids.
