Abstract

1501513 Detergent compositions MONSANTO CO 16 May 1975 [17 May 1974 24 May 1974] 20773/75 Heading C5D [Also in Division C2] Detergent compositions comprise (a) 1 to 95% of a compound of formula (see Division C2) where R is an organic radical (valency a), such that R(OH) a exists wherein at least one -OH is an active hydroxy group and b is 0 or an integer so that a - b is at least 1 and each R<SP>1</SP> is a radical and each M is an alkali metal or ammonium, each radical R' being attached to a carbon atom of R; provided R is a radical other than wherein A and A' are each hydrogen or methyl and X is hydrogen, methyl, ethyl, alkali metal or ammonium and (b) 0À5 to 95% of a water-soluble, anionic, nonionic, amphoteric or zwitterionic surfactant; or (a) 5 to 90% of a compound (a) above with (b) from 0 to 5% of a low-foaming anionic or nonionic surfactant and (c) 0À5 to 2À1 by weight of available chlorine provided by potassium or sodium dichlorocyanurate, [(monotrichloro)tetra- (monopotassium dichloro)] pentaisocyanurate, (mono-trichloro) (monopotassium dichloro) diisocyanurate, and chlorinated trisodium phosphate and (d) 5 to 30% soluble sodium silicate with SiO 2 /Na 2 O mole ratio of 1:1 to 3À2:1 as a machine dishwashing formulation; or the compound (a) may be used to inhibit the deposition of scale from hard water. Many conventional additives for the formulations are listed and examples describe the use of compositions containing tri - sodium - 2 - (carboxymethoxy) - 2 - ethoxymalonate, tri - sodium - 2 - (carboxymethoxy) - 2 - methoxymalonate, tri - sodium - 2 - (carboxymethoxy) - 2 - dodecyloxymalonate, and hexasodium 4,4,12,12-tetracarboxy- 3,5,8,11,13 - pentaoxapentadecandioate and many others.
