Abstract
1501293 Electric couplings J T THOMPSON and G W GILLEMOT 5 March 1975 9227/75 Heading H2E An assembly for connecting cable shields 35<SP>1</SP> across a cable joint comprises two shoes 32<SP>1</SP>, 33<SP>1</SP> with facing surfaces which, in use, clamp the shield and sheath of a cable end therebetween, one of the shoes comprising a fulcrum about which the shoes pivot during the clamping. Each shoe 32<SP>1</SP>, 33<SP>1</SP> has an end tang 65, 66 with tang 66 pivoting against the tang 65, and tangs 61, 63 which penetrate the cable shield 35<SP>1</SP> and sheath 36<SP>1</SP>; tangs 60 limit the amount by which the shoe 32 is inserted into the cable end beneath the shield. A stud 34<SP>1</SP> passes through an aperture 68 and nut 37<SP>1</SP> effects clamping. Legs 71, 72 of a clip 70 with piercing tags 73 are tightened on the bolt about a braided metal strap comprising two branches 25<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>11</SP>, branch 25<SP>1</SP> being joined at its other end to a clip similar to clip 70 and branch 25<SP>11</SP> to a metal casing (10<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, not shown). Instead of the braided metal strap and clip 70, a ductile metal strap having openings may be clamped directly to the stud 34<SP>1</SP> and casing (10<SP>1</SP>). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,402,579 and 1,408,893.
