Abstract

1501188 Preparing 2-aminoanthraquinones IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Oct 1976 [26 Nov 1975] 48621/75 Heading C4P 1-Amino-, 1,5- and 1,8-diaminoanthraquinones are prepared by heating 1-amino-, 1,5- or 1,8- diaminoanthraquinone carboxylic acids in an inert, polar organic liquid in presence of copper or a copper compound at a temperature sufficient to cause decarboxylation, e.g. 180-210‹ C. The inert polar organic liquids include N-methylpyrrol-id-2- one, N,N-dimethylformamide, quinoline, N,N- dimethylaniline, N,N-dimethyl-p-toluidine and tri-n-butylamine. Copper powder or wire and cupric oxide or salts, including the copper salt of the aminoanthraquinone carboxylic acid may be used.
