Abstract
150,105. Stuart, F. L. June 11, 1919. Conveying and elevating apparatus.-Apparatus for transferring material comprises means by which material may be taken from a main belt conveyer and delivered to storage or other carriers, or may be gathered and transferred to the main conveyer which carries it to its destination. A wheeled truck B driven by motors D runs on a track parallel to the main conveyer A, and has an inclined frame E which supports the looped part A<1> of the conveyer and a frame G which supports a turntable H. The part A' passes round a delivery pulley a<1>, pulley a<2>, driving-pulleys a<4>, a<5>, tension pulleys a<6>, a' and a pulley a<3>. One of the driving-pulleys is connected by gearing f to a motor F. The turntable H supports a frame I in which a cradle J is pivotally mounted. The cradle J can be swung by mechanism actuated by a motor L and has a boom conveyer M slidably mounted in it. The frame m of the boom conveyer is moved by mechanism actuated by a motor N. The material discharged from the main conveyer as it passes over the pulley a<1> passes through hoppers P, P<1> and over a shoot P<2> to the belt m<1> of the boom conveyer. The shoot P<2> is connected by pivots p<2> to the hopper P' and is supported by wires q. The hopper P<1> is connected by pivots p to a ring p<1> which rests on a flange at the mouth of the hopper P. When the boom conveyer receives material and delivers it to the main conveyer belt, the shoot P<2> and hopper P<1> are raised by the wires q to the position shown by dotted lines, Fig. 5, and the belt m<1> discharges as it passes round the driving-pulley n<2> into the hopper 0 which discharges on to the main conveyer belt through the hopper 0. The hopper 0 has branches o, Fig. 6, on opposite sides of the boom conveyer. The gathering-mechanism for transferring material from a storage pile to the boom conveyer comprises a double-ended plough R, a belt conveyer r', and a hopper r<3>. The frame r<2> of the conveyer r<1> is detachably connected to the boom so that it may be replaced by a gathering-device in which the plough enters endways into the material. The hopper r<3> is pivoted at r<4> so that it may be raised when the boom conveyer is discharging material. The gathering-mechanism may be connected pivotally to the boom conveyer so that it may be swung independently in an horizontal plane. The turntable H may be rotated by mechanism actuated by a motor K, but for heavy work the boom conveyer, &c. is swung by an endless-track tractor S which may also be used for moving the conveyer longitudinally in its cradle. The outer end of the boom may be lowered by a cable T actuated by a winch T<1>, and this tackle may be used also for moving the boom in one direction about its vertical axis. A hopper U is provided into which the boom conveyer can deliver in case it is desired to return the material to the main conveyer belt for delivery to another apparatus for discharging it where required.
