Abstract

1499863 Pipe joint CIBA-GEIGY AG 17 April 1975 [19 April 1974] 15969/75 Heading F2G A pipe joint comprises a first pipe section A, a first sleeve C surrounding and bonded to the pipe section A, a second sleeve D having an external screw thread 10 and an internal diameter greater than the outer diameter of pipe A, an elastomeric spacer ring E; a second pipe section B having a collar F bonded thereto, the collar F having an internal screw-thread, for engagement with the screw thread 10 of the sleeve D, and a groove 26 containing a sealing ring 28 for engagement by sleeve C. The sleeves C and D are preferably made of glass fibre reinforced thermosetting resin and are preferably formed by centrifugal casting. The collar F, may also comprise fibre-reinforced thermosetting resin and may be formed on the pipe section using a former. The surfaces of the sleeves C and D and collar F may be suitably tapered to render the joint flexible. Angle a (Fig. 2) is preferably approximately two degrees. The sleeve D may be provided with ribs 40 which are co-operable with a tool for rotating the sleeve. Sleeve C and collar F may be bonded to their respective pipes by a thermosetting resin adhesive.
