Abstract

1499834 Winding coils PLESSEY CO Ltd 6 Oct 1975 [23 Oct 1974] 45763/74 Heading B3A In a machine for winding television scanning coils and similar generally saddle-shaped coils, wire 8 is led from a feed-output point 9 of reciprocable feeder means 4, 5, 6, 7 over a stationary mandrel 1 comprising core part 2 and detachable outer part 3, which are so shaped and arranged in relation to the part-circular path of point 9 that as wire 8 is fed there are formed curved coil end turns 8a and 8c, the longitudinal coil turns 8b, 8d being formed by the transfer of wire from one to the other of the coil end turns at the reversals of reciprocation of point 9. Wire feed arm 4 reciprocates over 180 degrees from the position shown in solid lines in Fig. 1 to that shown in dotted lines. During winding, the mandrel is heated by electric heating elements embedded in the mandrel, and after winding an electric current may be passed through the coil to further heat it and a pneumatic press 10 presses on the coil to consolidate the turns. The coil is removed by separating parts 2 and 3.
